Attic Insulation in Stony Brook, NY

Challenge

This Stony Brook residence presented itself with some of the typical issues we see in attic space.

Low levels of insulation, air leakage, and high bats not properly covered. This results in a colder home in the winter, hotter home in the summer, drafts, constantly running heating/cooling equipment, and high energy bills. 

Solution

The air leakage was fixed by air sealing any penetrations in the space.

We covered all the high bats with can covers to prepare/protect them from the new insulations being added.

An insulated storage platform was installed with SilverGlo foam board insulation and plywood, giving the homeowner a great space to store items. 

Then 14" of blown in cellulose insulation to the rest of the space. 

The attic is now properly sealed and insulated. The homeowner will experience a more comfortable home year round and save on energy bills.
